102 INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES OF CONDUCTING ELECTIONS DURING COVID-19
as they enter a polling station.
• Maintain safe distance of 1.5 meter inside polling premises.
• As in Mongolia’s case voters are identified by means of a fingerprint check, voters will have to
sanitize their hands twice: first as they enter and second after they have had their fingerprints
checked.
• The polling station shall be ventilated (room emptied with doors and windows open) every half
an hour for at least 10 minutes.
• High contact surfaces shall be disinfected every two hours, thus between 07.00 and 22.00 voting
period, the polling station must be disinfected at least seven times.
Voter Turnout
The GEC had quite a challenging task in managing and bring in place all the arrangements within a short
spam of about a month. Voter turnout was reported to be at 73.64 percent on the national level.
Specifically, out of 2,003,969 voters on the national electoral register, 1,475,780 have
cast their votes. The turnout was the highest since 2000. The GEC promptly announced the voting
results after the election process.
Observers from the United States, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and India, as well as more
than 100,000 observers from parties, coalitions, and independent candidates, registered
with polling stations and observed polling.
