to organize the aforesaid Parliamentary Election. To enforce and ensure the implementation of the
procedure for preventing the spread of infection (COVID-19) during the elections, the Government
approved Resolution No. 188 of May 27, 2020 (Annex) coordinated with the State Special Commission
and the Ministry of Health. This regulation was disseminated to parties, coalitions and candidates, and
recommendations and directions were provided.
A series of advertisements in local language were inserted in the media to explain how to participate
in elections and how to vote in a state of high readiness. Further, a series of handouts on the election
law were distributed to voters.
Polling
The polling began from 7 AM local time, and lasted for 15 hours at 2,070 polling stations across the
country, according to the General Election Commission (GEC). A total of 13 political parties, four
coalitions and 137 independent candidates contested the aforesaid elections, and more than 2.1 million
Mongolian citizens were registered as voters During the election, newspapers, radio, television, media
outlets, and journalists exercised their right to vote in line with the rules and regulations for prevention
of COVID-19 infection.
